Russia-Georgia Conflict Raises Concerns About Caspian Energy Exports

Sponsors of those pipeline projects, mainly European, have not yet shown publicly that they are overly concerned about the conflict in Georgia, but they certainly will be watching very closely to see how the situation develops in the coming months.

The fighting between Russian and Georgian troops that began last week is causing concern in the oil industry. BP [British Petroleum] has shut down a major strategic pipeline carrying Caspian oil from Azerbaijan to the Georgian Sea, citing concern about security in Georgia.
