Sulla fusione Gaz de France-Suez, Stratfor nota:

The GDF-Suez merger marks a huge success for those who wish to continue the European tradition of managing energy nationally through large monopolies with considerable state backing, given that the French government will retain a 35.6 percent stake in the merged entity. It also amounts to a major setback for the European Commission in its ongoing liberalizing efforts to break up vertically integrated firms, encourage competition and diversify Europe’s energy sources.

La fusione appare come il punto d’approdo di una tendenza in atto da qualche anno, come si notava in un PINR dell’estate 2005.

For many observers, the ongoing wave of “economic patriotism” advocated by French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin is nothing else but the renewal of French-style protectionism marked by the Colbertian tradition of statist direction of the national economy.

Tuttavia il “patriotisme économique” è di più di un “neo-colbertismo”; è infatti intimamente legato alla questione della “Guerra economica“.

Da seguire con attenzione anche l’impatto che la fusione avrà sui rapporti Francia-UE, dato che, come notato dagli analisti di Stratfor, Parigi sta imponendo la propria volontà nazionale alla Commissione Europea.

Nell’inverno del 2006, prima dell’era Sarkozy, si notava peraltro:

La crise de la construction européenne est profonde. A l’heure des frictions économiques italo-françaises causées par l’affaire Suez-GdF, la France apparaît comme l’emblème même de cette impasse, qui s’inscrit dans une dynamique de désenchantement envers l’Europe ; dynamique déjà à l’œuvre dans les perceptions ayant causé l’échec du Traité constitutionnel.

Le sens et l’enjeu du conflit politique actuel, suite à l’application du “ patriotisme économique ” prôné par le gouvernement de M. de Villepin, ont la plus grande importance pour les évolutions de la construction européenne.
