Turchia: Erdogan e AKP rinforzati
24/7/2007Analisi di Oxford Analytica sull’importante risultato elettorale turco:
The results show that AKP has managed to contain the conflict between secularists and Islamists. While the secularist CHP was in front in a handful of provinces in the ‘European’ west, AKP led in most other developed areas. It can no longer be labelled as a party of backwoodsmen. Its origins in political Islam are clearly less important than its stance as a liberal party that respects both traditional and modern life styles. Nevertheless, as he is still short of a two-thirds majority in parliament, Erdogan will have to win the support of at least some members of the opposition for his presidential candidate. He had earlier confirmed that, since his proposal for a popularly elected president has still to be put to a referendum, the next president will be chosen by the new parliament under the current constitution. He promised before the election to seek consensus on the choice of president. The wider revision of the constitution that Erdogan has in mind will also be difficult to achieve without a two-thirds majority in parliament.
