Globalizzazione e Nazionalismo Economico

10/10/2005

Il celebre quotidiano britannico The Independent riporta come

Pressure is mounting on the UK government to sell Westinghouse, the profitable American arm of British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL), to one of its compatriots amidconcerns about foreign companies threatening national security by buying US companies.

There are other signs elsewhere that European industry itself is taking steps to protect itself from the forces of global competition. Last month Porsche said that it planned to buy a 20 percent stake in fellow German car company Volkswagen to secure VW against a possible takeover. DaimlerChrysler had also held talks with VW about buying a stake.

The Italian government is also preparing defenses for state-owned companies that are due to be privatized to protect them against hostile takeovers, according to a report in a newspaper.
